Toni, his mom thanks you all for the encouragement you provided through Bubba's weight loss journey. A letter from Toni will be posted soon to this page. In the meantime we invite you to continue to use the guest book below to send messages to Toni.

Hi Bubba, I am a 1 year old pug named Sadie. I am so sorry you are on a diet, but you look just fabulous and I admire your will power. I am a pleasantly plump little girl I weigh 21 pounds and my dear vet Dr K thinks I should be on a diet too. I don't think he understands that its my Mom and Dad's fault. They can't help but feed me when I ask for a treat. They are my obedient well trained humans and I wouldn't have it any other way. Best of luck to you Bubba. Pug hugs and Kisses! Sadie |

Hi Bubba! My name is Endo and I am 3 years old. My vet just told my mom that I am overweight and need to lose a few pounds. I was not happy to hear the news! I love all kinds of food including vegetables and fruit which is good because I can snack on these instead of the cookies I used to eat. I really miss eating cheese - it is still my favorite. Good luck Bubba, we are all rooting for you! Endo :) |
Marley ~ Canada Bubba my heart goes out to you, tell your mommy to cut down on the feedings to two a day, it worked for me. My mommy says Good luck, and we're rooting for you Bubba |

Cindi, BJ, and Gidget ~ Las
Vegas, NV Hey Bubba...we're rooting for you. We are a little overweight too! Our mom is researching how to help us lose a few pounds right now and found you. We know it is tough and you can do it. Soon you will be running around like a crazy pug puppy again! We're going to check up on you and see how you are doing! Good luck!!! Love-BJ and Gidget the pugs and Cindi the momma |
Glendy
~ Cupertino, CA GO Bubba! you are looking good! Ly-Fu, my 7-year-old male pug, growls and bits when we try to cut his paw nails. he also does not like his paws being touch. so cutting his nails is a two person task. we cover his eyes or head with a towel and hold his head so he does not see what we are doing. the growling and biting is at a minimal. maybe you can try doing this to help with the scale situation :) Keep up the good work bubba! ~glendy |
|
|
Max ~ Wisconsin Hey, Bubba! You and I are in the same boat, Pal. I have a new mom. My first mom had to go in a nursing home. I think I'm going to like my new home, they give me lots of love and attention, but my new mom says that I have to lose some weight. I weigh 26 pounds. She said that she wants me to live for a very long time and not to have problems with my joints or trouble breathing. I get a lot more exercise here, and she's cut my meals to 2 a day, and I haven't seen a treat since I got here two days ago. Tomorrow I will be introduced to carrots. Do I look like a rabbit? Hang in there, Buddy! It's for our own good. |
Rachel ~ San Diego CA
I've been checking in on the web page and I am so happy to see his beautiful little face. He is looking good in his 4th of july finery. My pug Wingnut was at one time very over weight she has since shed the extra lbs and is loving it. Keep up the good work Bubba and Toni. |
|
|
Penelope ~ Fabulous Las Vegas
Hi Bubba! My name is Penelope & I'm a newly emancipated pound Pug. My former owners were wonderful about grooming but gave me too many treats! I,too,am a fat pug- in fact I found you by entering "fat pug" into a search engine. Your story is so inspiring- I know you can get yourself thinner, especially with all the love you obviously have @ your disposal. We both need to learn that love is not necessarily food! Your sweater is really cute! Where I live it rarely gets cold enough for one! |
Ashley ~ Rahway, NJ Both of my pugs weigh over 30 pounds. They play a lot and get enough exercise. They just love to eat! |
|
|
Sarah ~ Ft. Lauderdale, FL
Bubba you are so handsome! I love following your story and checking up on you! You're doing great... keep hanging in there!! Shed them puggy pounds! |
Michele ~ Iowa Hi Bubba! I hope you are able to reach your target weight. My little pug Sophie was overweight according to our vet. She weighed 22 pounds and now 18 months later she has reached her target weight of 14 pounds. (She has a small frame). She reduced her caloric intake, increased her fiber and stepped up her excercise by taking longer walks regularly. Sophie is 8 years old and is doing great. Good luck Bubba! |
|
|
Carolyn Silva and Winston
~ Los Gatos, Ca Bubba, we met you Saturday night at your mom's party. I know how you feel; it ain't easy being fat. My advice is to eat a little less at every meal and avoid snacking, except when you need to be rewarded. I try to do this with Winsto, as he loves to eat too, and gains weight easily. Tell your mom thanks for ray and me. We enjoyed the party very much. Hope we can come again and find you a few pounds lighter! Carolyn, Winston and Ray Silva |
Renee ~ California usa
bubba bubba bubba your a whole lot of luvva you are a pug and dont you forget it no matter how much you weigh. try and drink water and nudge mom more to take you out for exercise. also have mom try a little treat for your effort in this by a nice doggie massage before you both go to sleep at night. i wish you all the happiness youy two and lets keep that whole lotta luvva alive we love you bubba you can do it, renee |
|
|
Mahi Laura ~ Walla Walla WA
ou go Bubba! You just need to beg harder and your mama will give in. She cannot possibly resist your persistent grin and the HUNGRY look in your eyes... I know cause my pug, Pierre does it to me every day. He only weighs 26 pounds but they keep telling me to put him on a diet. I told the vet to put himself on a diet cause he's a lot fatter than Pierre, so he has no room to talk. I was so upset I took poor little Pierre out for ice cream to comfort him. We both felt better after that. Huckleberry cheese cake. Tell your momma toni you NEED some huckleberry cheese cake, cause Pierre told you to try it. You look great! Don't let anyone tell you different. If they say you are fat, bite them hard on the leg. Bye! |
Kathy Schrader ~ Katy, Texas
ou are going to feel so much better and have so much more energy, Bubba! Keep up the good work! |
|
|
Gomez ~ Toronto,
Ontario, Canada Come on! you can do it. My name is Gomez and I"m a pug puppy and I weigh 6 pounds. teach me how to diet and we'll be diet buddies when I grow bigger. Good luck on your programme! Love ya, Gomez |

Jennifer ~ Urbana, IL,
USA Hi Bubba! I know how hard it can be to lose weight--for a pug, this must be a monumental task! I wish you the best of luck, and send you many puggy hugs! Take care lil' buddy. Jennifer |

California yeah way to go bubba - we to had a bubba not quite as heavy as you- he was a28pnder -we are very proud of you and your mom for the hard work its hard to resist that face- BUBBA YOU ROCK BUDDY SHELL, KADY AND NAPSTER. |
Melissa ~ Atlanta, Georgia
My pug ripley was once over weight. My vet suggested the green bean diet. He said use can green beans and a few pieces of kibble. I would get the unsalted store brand and mix 7-8 pieces of kibble and I no longer have a chubby pug. Also He LOVED the green beans!!! |
|
|
Christie & Cavin ~ Santa
Cruz, California Best of luck to you sweet Bubba, you'll do it |
Tofu the Pug and Pearl the
French Bulldog ~ Los Angeles County CA We feel for Bubba. Just Friday, our vet admonished Tofu the Pug (age 2-1/2) for gaining two pounds in the past three months. Three months ago, he said she was two pounds "overweight" (he said her idea weight would be about 18 pounds, she weighed 20-1/2). On Friday, she was 22 and change. He was very disappointed that she continues to gain. However, we just got a French Bulldog puppy in August, and the Pug is eating the puppy's (higher calorie) puppy kibble instead of her own food. After seeing Bubba, I will not have such worries about "a few extra pounds." She must seem like a stick figure compared to Bubba. I really hope you are able to get his weight more under control, sorry to hear he is back up to 39 pounds. But you get 'points' for rescuing him! |
|
|
Susan Collier ~ Texas
Bubba honey hang in there. My little pug Sasha loves to eat also. I have to fight very hard to be a good Mom. Good luck to you sweetie and to your Mom. I know how hard this must be on you both. God Love You. |
Gidget "Smidge" Breeze ~
Gainesville, FL I'm a big puggie, too. I weigh 37 pounds. I just started my prescription diet today, so we can slim down together! Let's do it! |
|
|
Thorman J. Pug ~ California

Chrissy
Urbana, IL Bubba, check out the new "O" --oprah's magazine- It has a good article "16 thoughts to make you thin" But, Bubba, remember that you need to want to be thin for you not anyone else. Being big is ok. There is more of you to love! |
|
|
Kim ~ Fort Worth, Texas
Bubba, keep up the good work. My pug Daisy went from 32lbs. to 24lbs. You can do it!!!!!!!!!!! |
Candice ~ Texas U.S. i think that's it's wonderful that he's losing weight! Keep on losing my Brotha |
|
|
Gizmo ~ Las Vegas Hi Bubba, I'm Gizmo, a 2 1/2 year old fawn Pug. I know what you're going through, I'm kinda fat too. The vet says I'm too young to be carrying all this extra weight (I'm 28 lbs and I'm supposed to be 24 lbs). My mommy loves me so much and so whenever I stare at her with my big brown eyes she can't help but share whatever's on her plate with me. I'm really good at getting my way with her! So now I'm on a diet. I've been on a diet for a while now, but I can't seem to lose any weight. Probably because when my mommy's not looking I steal food from the other dogs and even the parrot. Parrot food is yummy! So I just wanted to say good luck cause I know what you're going through. Bye, Gizmo |
eddie ~ canada, vancouver
bubba, my pug also is heavy. he weighs 42 lbs and we have tried getting him to lose weight with no success. he goes to the vet regularly, and she says hes in great health. i could send photos. take care, eddie |

Kim and Josie the pug ~ Los
Angeles, CA Hi Bubba!!! You are the cutest! I hope your thyroid is ok b/c you seem to be having a lot of trouble losing weight. Thankfully there is good advice on here. Remember, no matter what you weigh that you are cute, loveable and worth it. Your mommy is lucky to have such a big bundle of love. I hope you lose more weight so that your cute face is around for a long time! I also hope walking and playing gets easier so u can have all the fun you deserve! Josie, Mark(Josie's dad) and I are thinking of you! GO BUBBA!!! Any new pics? |
A NONI MOUSE ~
Baltimore, MD Your pug is certainly cute and I wish the best for him. I read the journal though and am worried about the owner's care of Bubba. This pug should not AT ALL be sharing treats with his mother. I understand it's hard when the pug is looking at you with those pleading eyes but this is his life we're talking about. If you want your pug to live be more strict!!! He'll thank you later when he can walk without aching joints and breathe without fear of his chest collapsing on his lungs |
|
|
Katie ~ florida, largo
I think Bubba can do it.He will live longer when he does it.I am nine and my dogs name is Bubba,he needs to loose some pounds too! I have three pugs there names are Otis,Bubba, and Trixie all three dogs are supporting Bubba/your Bubba. Go! Bubba go! Good luck! |
Elie Bubba is an adorable pug and best wishes to him |
|
|
Mike ~ Urbana, Illinois
Bubba, I am pleased that you are close to reaching your weight-loss goal. I only hope that you continue to diet in a healthful way and get plenty of nutrients and exercise! Sometimes, Bubba, you may feel the urge to cheat. You may want a chunk of chicken, some turkey, a tasty cookie, or a nice filet. But just think of all the people you would be letting down by cheating. Nicole Richie, Mary-Kate Olsen, Al Roker, and Lindsey Lohan all beat their pounds come hell or high water. Remember to court the purity. Rock on lil' buddy! Remember... food is a crutch. |
Madison and Hope (on behalf
of Katie, our also chubby Pug) ~ San Antonio,Texas Our pug Katie, is chubby too and needs to lose weight. She's 29 pounds and the vet says she needs to be about 18 pounds. She, however is not doing nearly as great as you! She's been on a diet for over a year and hasn't lost an ounce. We hope she'll get a stroke of your good luck bubba. Keep up the good work, Cutie! |
|
|
Wendy Thorp ~ Phoenix,
Arizona Dear Bubba and Mom - My pug Frank and I are behind you 100%. Frank too has a little bit of a weight problem. In November Frank was at 40 pounds but has managed to lose 2 pounds. I am SO proud of him (and me). Reading the "notes from Bubba" brought tears to my eyes as it all sounded VERY familiar. ;-) I hope Frank and I can do as well as the both of you. I can't believe what a huge difference there is in the two pictures (40 lb. Bubba vs. 36 lb. Bubba). Who knew 4 pounds could make such a difference and Bubba, you look SOOO handsome!!!! Keep up the good work!!! You are me and Frank's new inspiration. Thank you, good luck & I wish you (and Bubba Stud) all the strength in the world. :-) |
Sherry+Logan ~ Tallahassee,
FL We also have a obese pug, who happens to be a female. Her name is scarlet she is 30 pounds, our vet said she is obese. She gets pretty much whatever she wants with her "tricks" like her stare. We were wondering how you got him to lose wait. We try to diet her but it never seems to work. Also lately she developed a new trick, she pretends her leg is hurt in order to get food. Scarlet says hey and best of luck!!! |
|
|
Dolly Pugton ~ Las Vegas!
I, too, have had the challenge of losing weight. When I was adopted into my new home just a few months ago, I was a big girl at 26 pounds! My people have helped me through their love and now I am a svelte 20ish. I did it, and I know you can too! Your people love you and want the best for you, just like mine did. So, hang in there, brother! I believe in you!! Oh, and I am still a happy pug even if I only get 1/2 of a small greenie once a week!! |
sarah cardell ~ brick, nj

Way to go Bubba! We are in the process of adopting a pug named Winston from a Pug rescue organization in the DFW area who is overweight at 38 lbs. Any words of advice as to how we can help him slim down to a much more healthy weight? Thanks! |
carrie m hunter ~
California USA Bubba!!! You can do it!!! |
|
|
Fran Browning ~
Florida, USA I've adopted a 1 year old pug who eats like a maniac. Although I portion his food, he'll scrounge around the house for any crumbs on the floor or will go out in the yard and eat the chicken and goose's grain. Sometimes I see him eating bark from branches. He'll eat anything! Anyhoo --- Has Bubba lost weight? Is he down to normal weight? And what the heck is normal weight for a pug. At this point I don't know if I'm overfeeding him or underfeeding. Thankfully, mine has not gotten as fat as Bubba but if I don't do something he probably will. Thanks for any help you can give. And please let me know if your doggie's lost some weight. Fran |
Elisabeth ~ PA Hi there, our Roxy is a bit overweight and could stand to drop a few pounds...she is about 24pounds...we don't give her treats and she gets fed twice a day - about 3/4cups for the day. We go for walks, she loves to play outside. Not sure what else we can do to help her lose a couple of pounds....We feed her food with all natural ingredients... Hang in there Bubba...you are doing great!! |
|

Braylon ~ Connecticut
Hi Bubba, I'm a 1 year old pug. Today I went to my vet and was told that I am 5 pounds overweight. When I saw your website I was encouraged. My family is going to help me lose the weight by feeding me less and excersizing me more. My vet recommends switching to canned food because it has less calories. Maybe you could try the same thing. I hope you have good luck. |
|

| August 2007 Letter from Toni, Bubba's mom |
IT IS WITH GREAT SADNESS AND MY BROKEN HEART TO TELL YOU THAT BUBBA CROSSED OVER THE RAINBOW BRIDGE ON AUGUST 20, 2007. STARTING IN JULY I HAD TO CATHEDAR HIM. DUE TO THE NEUROLOGICAL DAMAGE CAUSED BY GETTING HIT BY THE CAR HIS BLADDER MUSCLE COULD NOT CONTRACT THEREFORE HE COULD NOT URINATE ON HIS OWN. I WOULD INSERT A CATHEDAR TUBING TWICE A DAY AND SYRINGE OUT THE URINE. HIS NEUROLOGICAL DAMAGE ALSO MEANT NERVE DAMAGE SO BUBBA DID NOT FEEL THE TUBING BEING INSERTED INTO HIS PENIS. HE WAS DOING FINE HE ONLY HAD NECK AND HEAD MOVEMENT BUT LIKE HE TOLD YOU IN HIS LAST LETTER HE WENT WITH ME EVERYWHERE. WHETHER IT BE IN HIS RED WAGON OR CARRIED FROM ROOM TO ROOM THROUGHOUT THE HOUSE. HIS SPIRITS WERE HIGH – HE WAS STILL HIS ORNERY LITTLE SELF. AGAIN, BUBBA WAS NOT IN PAIN. STARTING IN AUGUST I COULD TELL HER WAS GETTTING TIRED. BUBBA COULD SING ON DEMAND AND SAY “I LOVE YOU” WHICH HE WAS STILL DOING BUT BEING HIS MOM I COULD TELL HIS ZEST FOR LIFE WAS SLOWING DOWN. ON AUGUST 18TH HE WENT TO THE VET AS I THOUGHT HE HAD PHENMONIA. HE WAS CONGESTED AND WITH HIM JUST LAYING AROUND I THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD CHANCE TO GET PHENMONIA. IT WAS NOT PHENMONIA JUST ALLERGIES. THAT WAS A RELIEF. (HENCE, NOW WE KNOW IT WAS HIS NEUROLOGICAL SYSTEM SHUTTING DOWN FURTHER) ON AUGUST 20TH
I NOTICED HE WASN’T ABLE TO SWALLOW HIS FOOD. HE COULD DRINK STILL SO I
THOUGHT HE HAD SOME TYPE OF OBSTRUCTION IN HIS THROAT. I MADE A VET
APPOINTMENT FOR THAT AFTERNOON. AT THIS TIME HE WAS NOT IN ANY TYPE OF
DISTRESS. AT 4:00 THAT DAY, (VET APPT AT 4:30) BUBBA WENT INTO MAJOR
DISTRESS AND COULD NOT BREATHE. THE VET IMMEDIATELY PUT HIM ON OXYGEN.
HE WAS IN SUCH BAD SHAPE, THAT HE DIDN’T EVEN FEEL THE OXYGEN TUBING
GOING DOWN HIS THROAT, AS THE VET DID NOT HAVE TIME TO NESTITIZE HIM
BEFORE INSERTIG THE TUBE. I WAS HAVING A HARD TIME ACCEPTING THAT THIS
WAS THE END SO I HAD THE VET DO XRAYS AS OTHER TESTS. WHILE THEY TOOK
THE XRAYS BUBBA WAS TAKEN OFF OF THE OXYGEN JUST FOR A FEW MINUTES, HE
WOULDN’T BE GASPING FOR AIR, BUT IT WAS VERY APPARENT HE WOULD SUFFOCATE
TO DEATH IN A MATTER OF MINTUES WITHOUT THE OXYGEN. THE VET TOOK A
TOTAL OF 3 XRAYS. BUBBA HAD NO OBSTRUCTION, HIS NEUROLOGICAL SYTEMS WAS
SHUTTING DOWN. IT WAS TIME TO END HIS SUFFERING. SINCE HE WAS BEING
KEPT COMFORTABLE ON OXYGEN I GOT TO HOLD HIM TIGHTLY IN MY ARMS AGAINST
MY CHEST (I WAS IN HYSTERICS) FOR THE LAST HOUR OF HIS LIFE. HIS DADDY
WAS ABLE TO GET THERE FROM WORK TO SHARE SOME TIME WITH HIM ALSO. THAN
I GAVE HIM WHAT THE SAY “THE GREATEST GIFT” HIS LAST BREATHE WAS IN MY
ARMS, AGAINST MY CHEST, WITH MY LIPS OF HIS, KISSING HIM. I, TOO, AM PARTIAL DISABLED AND IN JULY HAD WENT ON PARTIAL DISABILITY, SO I WAS ABLE TO SPEND MUCH MORE TIME WITH HIM THE LAST MONTH OR SO. I WON’T BE MODEST AND TELL YOU THAT I GAVE BUBBA THE GREATEST LIFE EVER. I DEVOTED EVERY MINUTE TO HIM WHEN I WAS NOT A WORK. I HAVE TO REMEMBER IN THIS DIFFICULT TIME THAT THERE IS NO DOUBT BUBBA KNEW HE WAS LOVED IMMENSELY BY ME. IN MY EYES HE WAS PERFECT AND HE KNEW I THOUGHT THAT. I WANT TO THANK ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR ENCOURAGEMENTS WITH HIS WEIGHT LOSS. I READ EVERY ENCOUGRAGEMENT WE RECEIVED TO BUBBA. WE ENJOYED THEM SO. A WEEK BEFORE HE PASSED HE DID WEIGH IN A 31.4 POUNDS, SO HE DID REACH HIS GOAL – CLOSE ENOUGH- THE GOAL WAS 30. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO STILL CONTACT ME THROUGH BUBBA'S GUEST BOOK. TONI |
| April 2007 | Here it is the end of April
already, wow how times flies when you’re growing old. Much has changed.
I am no longer able to walk at all. My back legs finally have given out.
(Remember I was hit by a car a long time ago, before Mom rescued me). My
vet has tried many different wheel carts but I am not able to pull
myself along so the wheels don’t work. No worries, I have my little red
wagon that I go everywhere in. I am never left behind. My little wagon
even states “King Bubba” on it so that everyone knows what a king I am.
I love my “ride”, I just sit down let my dad Erik pull me along, sitting
on my sheepskin pad and take in all the sights. Just wonderful, do I
deserve any less – No. Also I am in no pain from my back legs, the
feelings are gone in them.
I go swimming in the hot tub – with luke warm water – which I love A LOT. My back legs do move a little so I am able to paddle around, it just feels great. My weight though, now that is a different story, no exercise no weight loss. I am still on the diet food but my weight is a steady 36 pounds. Not much Mom can do. Also we had a “little” talk. I live for my food, the only enjoyment I have in life, so I do get treats now. And it is about time!!! Sometimes, I even get chicken breast. My tummy gets upset every now and than so mom gives my chicken!! Yahoo!!!. Now that I know I get chicken if my tummy hurts, I wonder how I can fake it – the more chicken the better. My brother Pickle is still on the diet food also, his weight is up and down, between 30 and 32. He was at 29 pounds but it is hard, plus Mom is so busy with me (and the little brats-Freeway and Dakota) that sometimes Pickle gets too many treats etc. Yes Mom has four pugs. Freeway and Dakota, mom calls her Codi, will be two in June. They are brother and sister and are here on the earth to torment Pickle and me!!!. I will say one thing though, Freeway has an attitude like me so at least he’s smart and learned something from me. They are not overweight –YET. Mom has been very very careful with them. I laugh at them because they never got to eat all the good stuff like me. I guess they missed the boat!!!! So Mom has her hands full with all four of us, but I know I am her favorite, how can I not be, just look at me!! I am the only black one so I also feel special. Also my whole family knows I am the KING, and if they happen to forget, believe my they are quickly reminded!!! I know there are a few of you “lucky” pugs they have started your diets, please let me know how they are going. I love to hear that I am not the only “lucky” one out there. Please email me. Thank you for all the encouragements that keep coming, mom reads everyone of them too me, I love it!!! Keep them coming. I will be 13 on May 28 and I look forward to that as I get filet mignon for dinner!!!!! Promise to write more frequently so keep checking on me, I will be looking for your updates on your diets. -Bubba |
| May 2006 | Well here it is the middle of May and I am weighing in at 32 pounds!!!! I am slowly but surely getting to my target weight of 30 pounds. It ain’t no picnic, let me tell you. I believe my mom is even having a hard time not feeding me everything she eats, but that could be because I make her feel guilty for not sharing. Isn’t that fair, what’s hers is mine, right? But none the less I keep plugging along. I look a lot different with 8 pounds off of me, and my halter, boy of boy, what a difference, my mom hasn’t adjusted it yet because she likes to look at how big it is on me now and see what progress I (not we-as she says-she’s still eating!!!) have made. My brother, Pickle, has started the same diet I am on, so at least I don’t have to watch him eat the “good” food. He weights 35 pounds, mom was so worried about me, she didn’t see Pickle eating everything in sight, he took advantage of the situation, didn’t he. Lucky him. Now he is paying the price HA HA. He has lost almost 4 pounds so far in about a month. I am having other difficulties though, see before my mom adopted me I was with this other lady and when I was younger, around 5 I was hit by a car and my back legs got hurt. Well the other lady didn’t do anything to help my legs so now my back legs are all messed up. My knee cap is not anywhere near where it should be, all my joints are calcified, etc etc and all this results in me having a really hard time walking. I was taking some NSAID medicines which did help, my legs don’t lock up on me anymore, but sometimes I just fall down. I still need to go on walks, you know the exercise thing mom makes me do. So mom bought a little red wagon that she brings with us on our walks and when I get tired I get to ride in the wagon. What a king I am!!! I just sit back and enjoy the ride, taking in all the sites. The vet said something about surgery on my leg but not until me weight is down to 30 so that I make it thru surgery. I have to loose another 3 pounds, what a cruel world this is!!! Mom and me read every email we get and enjoy all of them. Mom answers the ones that have questions about how to diet. I am so glad there are other puggies that have to go thru this dieting thing. It is just awful. But I wish all of you good luck on your diets. Oh yea, I gave up mint Milano cookies!!! Surprised huh? Mom still eats them but I just don’t want them anymore, kind of scary!! We will write again soon with updates so please keep checking back at my progress and let me know how your diets are coming. I am so glad I’m not the only one who has to suffer through!!!! Bubba |
| January 20, 2006 | I made it thru the
holidays- wow all that good food. Actually I had a set-back after
Thanksgiving - well what was I supposed to do - my will-power is very low and Mom came through for me. I gained a pound back but I considered well worth it. I have been doing very well - I am down to 33 pounds!!! Pretty good huh - a 5.5 lb weight loss!!! Don't get me wrong - I hate it. This starving bit is terrible. And whats this about my stomach shrinking so that I won't feel hungry - BULL. The other day mom came home for lunch and the nerve of her - she gives me my lunch (I eat three small meals a day) a plate of diet dog food and she proceeds to sit down on the couch with a plate with a chicken leg and a BIG juicy chicken breast!! Well thank goodness I have lost weight - I never ran so fast in my life. I waited until mom was relaxed and I stole that BIG JUICY chicken breast off of her plate and ran for my life with this big breast hanging from my mouth!!! So I didn't get to eat it - I at least got a taste of it. Is is always going to be this way. Yes I am looking a lot better - but than again I have always been handsome. I now have a waistline!! And my halter is SO big on me - mom hasn't adjusted it yet -she likes to see the difference when we put it on me. Weird. Also, my moms secretary knitted me a beautiful sweater last year and now we need to tie it up to make it tighter so it will fit me. I still don't consider starving is worth all this. Who cares about a sweater? Lets see sweater or food -gee thats hard. I figure it this way, I wouldn't need a sweater when I have weight on me - doesn't the weight keep me warm enough. My vet says to get down to 33 pounds and than she will re evaluate me, remember I am a BOG boned boy so I will never weigh what a normal pug should weigh. I am hoping 33 pounds will be good enough but I think I heard my mom say I should weigh 30, boy my pay backs will have to be bad. Actually I bit her the other day, got her right on the chin, blood and all. I know I was bad but sometimes my attitude gets the better of me. I try and remember she is only making me loose weight so that she will be able to love me a lot longer as I will be healthier, but when I am hungry and see food I don't think about living longer I just think about devouring all the food I can. It has been tough and I know its not over and I will never be able to go back to eating chicken breast every night, but at least I will have more nights cuddling with mom in bed. (sorry my sensitive side showed for a minute) I love all the emails I get, I like that there are other pugs suffering on a diet like me. Thank you for all the encouragement. I will keep you posted on reaching my stupid weight loss goal - wait - its not MY goal - its MOMS goal. |

As some of you may know I am having a hard time with my diet. I returned to 39
pounds! I swear my mom held me down and made
me eat, I swear! (mom tells everyone I threatened her if she didn't feed me- can
you believe that!) Well last week I had an emergency vet visit. I sniffed a fox tail up my nose (talk about uncomfortable). Removing the foxtail didn't turn out to be just a simple procedure. While I was under anesthesia they had to revive me two times. But don't worry - my NDE (near death experience) did not change my attitude!!) The vet is blaming my weight for the problem - heck I still think it was caused by the foxtail!! So now I have to eat this special canned diet food my doctor gives my mom. I also heard my vet tell my mom NO TREATS - DO NOT let him eat anything else!!! Can you believe it - Yikes she means business. My doctor calls it my severe weight watchers program-SWWP. I call it Starving Weight Watching Pug-SWWP! My goal is to loose 2 pounds per month, she wants me down to 33 pounds in 3 months. If that doesn't happen the vet is going to adjust the amount of my diet food my mom is allowed to give me. I guess this means no more sharing cookies in the middle of the night with mom. Shoot, that was our bonding time!!! At least mom thought so. I called it my treat time!! Isn't there a law against this!?!? Doesn't it say somewhere that a dog gets to eat, and has a right to food? Wish me luck again everyone. Mom says I'll look like the "stud" I think I am when I loose the weight. Maybe that means I will be able to chase those dogs that I don't like (the skinny ones) and actually catch them!! Stay tuned to see what happens to me. p.s. fellow puggies, the mail gets to the house before mom gets home from work, so does anyone want to send me a care package? Make sure it is able to be ripped open and ready to eat. Put a paw on the package so I know its for me. You can send it anonymously!! Bubba |

Hello everyone, it's me,
Bubba. First of all I'd like to say thank you for all the praise and
encouragement. I have to tell you that I'm a very big boned pug, as you can see. Some of my pug friends have small frames but not me, I'm just a big boy to start with. So now that we have that out of the way, I admit I love to eat. Ok, so who doesn't, right? Well my mom really loves to feed me. She spoils me; I get all the treats and toys I want. My human sisters even complain that they have been demoted to a lower position on the totem pole since I arrived. That's OK with me. I tend to think of myself as a King and therefore I support my mom's decision to lavish me with praise, affection, and importance. My weight at my heaviest was 41 pounds. I am now down to 38 and my mom would like me to weigh 29 or 30 pounds. When my mom rescued me I weighed 29 pounds, which was two years ago. There are only certain foods which I will eat. I will not will not eat carrots, broccoli or any vegetable that is good for me. I prefer chicken breast or sliced food such as Natural Balance. I used to have 3 big meals a day but my Mom is cutting my portions back and also I don't get any more chicken breast at night. I used to eat around 10pm and you know what they say about eating before bed. That's how I got so big. My brother Pickle's weight is okay, but he's much younger than me, I am nine and he's only 5 so it's easier for him to keep off the weight. You know how it is when you get older. Plus I think Pickle is crazy, he actually runs around and plays with our pug friends and our cats. Me, I just rather sit there and oversee the goings on and be loved and admired. I can't believe my mom wants me to exercise! Isn't walking down our block and back enough? I'm finding its not very easy to loose this weight, it was much easier to put the weight on. My mom has a hard time not giving me any of her food, I try not to stare at her and drool, but I am a pug and we are supposed to do that, aren't we? If I really want some of her food, like bacon (Yummy) I will bark and whine, which by the way I whine really good, really gets to her. I love receiving all the encouragements. Mom tries to weigh me every week but its not easy, see I have a little attitude problem..ok a big one. I hate the scale. I get mad when she brings the scale out and I growl and try to bite her or whoever tries to get me on that thing. I know this is bad thing but I can't help myself. If mom can trick me onto the scale (I won't let anyone pick me up either) she gets my weight. Really I am a loving pug, but I just want to be the boss. And I AM the boss!!! (I have mom wrapped around my little paw). Please keep the encouragements coming, mom and me get discouraged sometimes and need to hear we can do it. Bubba |
